What is Celina Insurance Group?
The National Mutual Automobile Association was chartered in Celina, Ohio in 1914, and in 1919 the same founders opened Celina Mutual Casualty Company to handle the liability side of the growing business. By 1925 they had moved to a larger headquarters, and in 1962 built an entirely new headquarters building, still in its original hometown of Celina.
The Celina Insurance Group added two additional member companies over the years. Today the group is comprised of National Mutual Automobile Association, Celina Mutual Casualty, Miami Mutual, and West Virginia Farmers Mutual. This expanded the company’s reach well beyond its roots in Ohio. Although all companies are a part of the group, each operates individually.
Product lines offered by Celina companies are auto insurance, home insurance, business, and farm. The insurer currently operates in six states. All product lines are offered in Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, and Iowa. In Kentucky and West Virginia, only farm insurance products are available. (For more information, read our Best Ohio Home Insurance“).
Products are sold through independent local agents in each state.

What Products Are Offered?
Celina Insurance Group offers four main products: auto, home, farm, and business. As mentioned above, availability depends on the state in which you live.
Auto Insurance
The company serves both the standard and non-standard auto insurance markets through their group of companies. Non-standard auto is handled through Miami Mutual, which also writes motorcycle insurance policies.
Auto policies are available with packaged coverage for a reduced rate, but further detail regarding the packages is not offered. The site states that their preferred policy includes $5,000 in Medical payments, $5,000 in loss of income, and $2,000 in death indemnity, but there is no description of the base policy these are added onto.
In addition to basic coverage, there is also a list of fairly common optional add-ons. These include rental reimbursement, roadside assistance, replacement cost coverage on new vehicles and loan/lease gap coverage. They also offer accident forgiveness as an endorsement, which is less common in smaller auto insurance companies.
There is a long list of available discounts. Included are the most common discounts like auto/home, claim-free, and safety features, and some less common ones as well. Among these are an empty nest discount, a stability discount for maintaining a home and job in the same place for several years, and a professional discount for college graduates that are employed in their field of choice. They also offer good student and several other discounts for young drivers.
The motorcycle policy from Miami Mutual also has some motorcycle-specific add-ons available, including accessories coverage, travel insurance protection, and the option to insure on a sunny-day basis. This means that although they anticipate the motorcycle will be garaged during the winter, they will provide coverage for occasional driving.
The insurance provider also offers non-owner insurance policies as well as coverage for a variety of specialty vehicles like RVs, ATVs, dune buggies, and golf carts.
Home Insurance
The insurer writes home insurance for owner-occupied homes as well as vacant and rental homes.
The home program has a base policy coverage of personal liability, structure, and personal property in one. Also included in the base policy is the LifeStages identity theft package.
In addition to the basics, there is a list of optional endorsements that can be added on. These include equipment breakdown, replacement cost for contents, increased replacement cost coverage for the structure, refrigerated property, and scheduled personal property.
There is a good list of discounts for home insurance as well, including an empty nest discount and a home modernization discount along with the common options like auto/home.
The company offers Business Insurance policies for a variety of industries including restaurants, retail, wholesale, offices, and used car dealers.
They offer a good range of commercial insurance coverage options:
- Commercial Auto
- General Liability
- Commercial Property
- Business Income
- Inland Marine
- Crime and Fidelity
- Catastrophe Liability (Umbrella)
- Worker’s Compensation
- Equipment Breakdown
- Professional Liability
- Employment Practices Liability
- Identity Management Services
- CyberOne Coverage
- Liquor Liability
Commercial Package policies are also available to combine common coverages in one. And, be certain to inquire about any additional business insurance products that might apply to you as a business owner. Commercial insurers often have a variety of business resources available for you.
Farm Insurance
Celina writes farm insurance for a variety of farms including dairy, livestock, grain, poultry, an equine.
They also offer a rural homeowners program for those that live in rural areas and have small farming operations that are not the main source of income.
These policies can include a wide variety of optional coverage in order to customize the farm package to each individual’s needs.
Are the Company’s Rates Affordable?
Online quoting is not available for any offered products. All quotes are handled through an agent, and the website offers an agent locator service. Also available is a contact form that can be filled out to request more information.
Without rates, we are unable to compare Celina to other companies, but we would generally expect them to be higher than major insurers, particularly than direct-buy companies. The insurer’s standard and preferred lines of auto insurance are likely to be more competitive than their non-standard products. Of course, non-standard insurance rates should only be compared to similar companies.

There are 19 reviews on Google for a total overall rating of 3.6 stars. There are a good number of glowing five-star reviews mixed in with a smaller number of negative reviews. The complaints are mainly focused on customer service issues, billing, and claims handling.
Overall, Celina seems to have a pretty good reputation, with a low complaint volume and plenty of positive reviews.
